I lunged for a scrap of paper, scribbled some words on it, then paid my wife an extended look. After that look, she knew that grocery shopping would now become a joint effort. Before leaving for the supermarket we each took one last peek into the refrigerator and made note of what we still needed and also what we now craved.
When reaching the grocery store, my wife, who is in charge of managing the budget, grew infuriated at my indecision, so uncharacteristically said, “Let’s just take 'em”
Since we were now taking the dozen eggs, (I always did love the substance that they offer when added to a salad), so with that in my mind we both started along the aisle leading to the produce section. There we picked up some lettuce and tomatoes. Since my wife was having an especially good day she thought it best to browse through the salad dressings. Then about halfway along the aisle I heard a voice from behind me make a sound. That voice belonged to my wife, but rather than lecturing me of impulse buys she simply agreed that the eggs would be the perfect ingredient to finish the salad.
Next I showed my wife how the green peppers and mushrooms were each on sale for the same price.
We've spent enough money today.
