CHIRS Artists in Progress

We have welcomed new and old artists for the summer; over the past month we have a new batch of artists joining our Thursday art group. Together we explore different art mediums such as beading, acrylic paint, sketching, and pencil crayons. Art group is a good place for socializing for the fellow artists while they develop their artistic skills. Some artists like to focus on one piece at a time while others have multiple projects on the go. This group brings great variety in expertise; some of the clients are first-time artists while others have more experiences. Regardless of the experience level, there are plenty of beautiful pieces being produced weekly!

For instance, new artist Shannon Y. loves to make art for others. Photographed below is Shannon painting a special gift for her mother. Her chosen medium is acrylic paint on canvas. This piece is a collaboration with Rony C. as he helps Shannon think of the design and sketches it out for her. Teamwork is an integral part of the new artists' process in art group.

Next, we have Scott M. proudly showing his marker on paper drawing of his tri-clops creation. Scott M. used his observation and imagination to create this artwork. He started the session wondering what to draw, art group facilitators encouraged him to try drawing his sunglasses that he had on the table next to him. This led him to create an abstract face of three lenses, three nostrils, and three lips making the perfect tri-clops face.

Our next featured artist is Nathan T. who is currently working on an acrylic painting of a bird from wildlife pictures. Nathan's work is admirable to many members of the group as they all enjoy seeing his weekly progress. He thoughtfully chooses his colors to match his reference picture of a toucan. Nathan was interested in art before his injury as he used to attend art school. He has also made rock paintings for the rooftop garden in the spring session.
