This month marks the month of Black History. We are well aware of February being the month for ‘recognizing’ many aspects of Black History. Join the CHIRS BHM (Black History Month) group this month for some special programming on our ADS Zoom. We plan to educate you on what has gone on over the years, some of the legends, and how we are making some changes today.
Every Friday lunch program in February,
Tuesday, February 22nd - in MindBusters (1-2:15)
Friday February 25th (1-4) – Grand Finale with an amazing movie, discussion and raffle.
We will learn how we can do our part in curbing the racism in society.
There will be a chance for staff and clients to win a great prize by wearing Red, Green or Black; these are significant colours in Black History month.
According to Briefly, the Marcus Garvey flag helped people of colour identify themselves in the global arena and demand respect for their race. The official colours are as follows’: RED, BLACK & GREEN. Red stands for bloodshed in the fight for freedom from racism, slavery, and colonialism. Black signifies the Africans' noble skin colour, while green symbolizes the luxuriant vegetation and other expensive natural resources in the continent. Here stands a women of colour holding the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association) flag. They created the flag in 1920.
The BHM group is inviting everyone to come join the fun. See you on Zoom!
