Food Hampers Initiative

The CHIRS food hamper program was started in March 2020 amidst the ever changing COVID-19 pandemic and has grown along the way. It is a joint ADS/ACSS initiative and the brainchild of Rachelle G. and Sean H. The food hamper program aims to provide food hampers for clients in the community in need. It also helps to reduce food waste by rerouting food nearing the best before date from grocery stores to people in need.

A team of staff and clients (including Munir C., Tony A. and Rachelle G. ) cooks and packs on Mondays. On Tuesdays, another team comprised of numerous CF's help deliver the food hampers all over the GTA. Currently there are 37 clients who benefit from this wonderful initiative.

Along with the main Monday prep group, two other food hamper groups have popped up: one on Thursday and one on Friday. These programs are headed by Rachelle G., Rowen K., Denise B., and Alex R. with various clients including Max T., Rueben S., Dora E., and Lorraine M.

In my opinion, this is an awesome initiative and we have received nothing but positive feedback and appreciation from the clients. And it seems like I'm not the only one: The Toronto ABI Network has invited Rachelle and Sean to talk about the program in a rapid podium presentation at their Conference this Fall.

Keep up the good work guys!
