On June 12, 2023, the CHIRS community celebrated as Adult Day Services brought back an integral and vivid part of the community, "The Club". This would not have been possible without the hard work of staff and clients alike. It is important for us to shine a light on the role that the mentors have in bringing the Club together. We had the opportunity to speak with some of our mentors; they delightfully shared their experiences:

Lisa K. flashed a big smile after completing her mentor duties. She stated: “I started volunteering at the Club as an avenue to practice working for Card Sharks. It helped me gain confidence in completing tasks on my own. I’ve been a mentor for many years because I love seeing everybody come together and being with them to create moments.”

Peter C. was getting ready to breakdown the cardboard boxes from the food donations. He said: “I’ve been volunteering for a long time. To me, being a mentor means lending a helping hand to someone when they need it. In this role, I help staff manage the Club and I also help clients with anything they need.”

Neil D. was happy to be hanging out in the Club again. “I started being a mentor in 2015. Although Zoom programming was still fun, I prefer to come to the Club in-person to see people. My favourite part about this role is getting the chance to learn new things from interacting with different people. I can learn interesting things from every person I speak with.”
A big thank you to all the mentors who give their time and effort to supporting the Club. A special thank you goes out to Lisa, Peter, and Neil for sharing their experiences.
